monarchs

We usually find a caterpillar or two each summer and raise it until it's a butterfly. This year, my goodness. At one point we had 15 in the kitchen. I was telling the kids to check the milkweed leaves they were bringing in from the garden. The leaves would often have a tiny caterpillar on them. Or an egg. And I really didn't want anymore caterpillars.

2 chrysallids went to my nephew. 1 went to a friend. another caterpillar went to a classroom. we have 8, maybe 9 chrysallids in the kitchen. Only 4 caterpillars left. It's amazing every time we watch it happen.
